Associate Professor Liss La Fleur Featured at Creative Capital Carnival at Lincoln Center

The event brought together artists, curators and arts leaders from across the country
to celebrate the newest Creative Capital award recipients and preview projects currently
in development.
La Fleur presented The Queer Birth Project, a multi-year collaboration with Katherine Sobering, UNT CLASS associate professor of sociology, that explores LGBTQ+ family building,
childbirth, caregiving and community connections.
The project is one of a select group chosen to receive support through the 2026 Creative
Capital Awards program, which provides funding, professional development and national
visibility to artists creating ambitious new work.
“Creative Capital's investment in artists who are asking urgent cultural questions
is incredibly meaningful,” said La Fleur. “The Queer Birth Project is rooted in collaboration,
care and storytelling, and this support will help us create new immersive experiences
that honor the histories, realities and futures of LGBTQ+ families.”
La Fleur's participation at Lincoln Center reflects CVAD's commitment to artistic
research and creative work that addresses important social and cultural issues.
Founded in 1999, Creative Capital supports artists across disciplines through funding,
professional development and community-building opportunities. Unlike many awards,
Creative Capital supports projects while they are still ideas in development, helping
artists bring new work to life.
