CVAD Waives Prerequisites for Select Summer & Fall 2026 Courses for All Students, including Non-Majors

Engineers. Entrepreneurs. Educators. Scientists. Musicians. Get creative with your electives!

No matter the major, creativity is a competitive advantage — and now more UNT students can build it into their degree plans. By removing prerequisites for select courses, CVAD expands access to high-impact creative learning for students across the university — preparing graduates for an evolving, interdisciplinary workforce.

Creative thinking is not limited to one discipline. When students from across the university work side by side in the studio, they challenge one another, broaden perspectives and strengthen the kind of critical discourse that prepares them for collaborative futures. Opening these courses reflects our belief that creativity and critical inquiry are essential skills for every field, not just the arts.

"Removing prerequisites for Studio Art courses increases access for non-majors, inviting students from across the university to engage in creative practice and visual thinking. This expanded access fosters creative problem-solving and interdisciplinary exchange, enriching classroom dialogue and critique. At the same time, our majors benefit from broader perspectives and diverse approaches, strengthening critical discourse and preparing them for collaborative, real-world contexts," said Nicole Foran, chair, Department of Studio Art.

Foundations Course

Systems thinking is increasingly essential for navigating complex, interconnected problems across disciplines. In this course, students apply systems thinking through visual modeling, research and project-based work.
