I've always walked the taut, thin line between science and the humanities — I loved art as a kid, but everyone I knew told me that a STEM major was the most stable career path. Through many hours of experimentation in those late teenage years, I discovered the world of design. As a unique fusion of artistic creativity and broad approaches for critically solving complex problems, design as a discipline seemed like it was made for me — it offered the perfect blend of left and right brain thinking.

I don't want to just make pretty things; I want to create solutions for real people in the real world that actually work, while also being politically, socially, and environmentally conscious. A design solution whose negative impacts are “out of sight, out of mind” is no solution at all; outcomes from design processes have to be sustainable, equitable, and just, with no strings attached.
