When I was 14, I dealt with a lot of medical problems, and I spent a lot of time at home very bored and unhappy. After some time, watching movies and TV shows got very boring and I was trying to find something to occupy my time. I came across the website HomeStyler.com, an online home design software that creates realistic 3D renderings. I spent all my free time designing different homes, and it made me happy for the first time in a while. I then took a multitude of art classes, specifically architectural design, where I got to explore and learn more about design. I wanted to go into interior design to be able to create space that would bring people happiness.
At UNT, I’ve had the space, support, and sunlight I needed to bloom as a designer. The Interior Design program rooted me in essential design principles and cultivated my growth through hands-on experiences, collaborative projects, and the mentorship of inspiring faculty. Surrounded by a creative and encouraging community, I’ve grown in both skill and confidence, shaping a design perspective that’s thoughtful, functional, and human-centered.
Looking ahead, I hope to plant myself in a professional role at an architecture firm — ideally one focused on healthcare design. I aim to pursue my NCIDQ certification within the next one to two years and begin mapping out the path toward a future master’s degree. Wherever I grow next, I carry the strong foundation and creative momentum UNT helped me cultivate.
