The 2023 UNT Salute to Faculty Excellence awardees include Elaine Pawlowicz, associate professor, Studio Art: Drawing and Painting.

Pawlowicz has demonstrated sustained excellence in teaching throughout her tenure at the University of North Texas, and her record of achievement exceeds the criteria for this award by every measure, said Nicole Foran, chair of the CVAD Department of Studio Art.

"Elaine is one of only three faculty members recognized for the prestigious award. This is quite a testament to the many ways Elaine impacts our students and lifts the CVAD community," said Karen Hutzel, CVAD Dean and professor of Art Education.

"Pawlowicz’s approach to teaching is innovative and provides students with opportunities outside of the traditional classroom or studio. She engages her students in service-learning projects that enable them to grow their networks and contribute to their communities," Foran said.

The award aims to provide recognition for professors or associate professors who perform outstanding teaching at the introductory levels of their disciplines, promote the continuous development of teaching excellence, and encourage improved teaching among their colleagues in the UNT community. The award consists of the designation "University Distinguished Teaching Professor" and a one-time supplement of $5,000 added to the recipient's base salary.
