"Reading the Fine Print: A Look at Patterns in High Fashion"

Bright pink, magenta and red band of color separated by black-and-white flowers Annette Becker will present an illustrated talk about the history and development of printed textiles in fashion design. Together we’ll learn about different designers’ approaches to developing and utilizing patterns — ranging from historic block printing to engineered digital prints. After being inspired by dynamic examples, the seminar will close with a short tutorial on how to craft your own repeating pattern block.

"All That Glitters: A History of Sparkle in Fashion"

Together we’ll learn about sequins and spangles, embroidery with precious metals and plastic threads, dress of the elite and the everyday man. The talk will be accompanied by hands-on examples of materials and techniques.
