Nov. 30, 2021: Allyson Packer, lecturer in CVAD Foundations, will be screening the video "Proscenium" at the Cucalorus International Film Festival, Wilmington, N.C., made in collaboration with Jesse Fisher, independent filmmaker and co-founder of Chimera Strategy. Part of the festival's experimental film program, "Proscenium" engages viewers in a speculative narrative about the collapse of real and virtual space. Sept. 21, 2021: UNT President Neal Smatresk will deliver the annual State of the University address at the Murchison Performing Arts Center celebrating UNT’s recent accomplishments, and debut his video address outlining our strategic focus for the new year. A reception to follow will honor Nada Shabout, art history professor and a 2020 recipient of the Kuwait Prize for Arts and Literature from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. |

Aug. 10, 2021: Dana Tanamachi, ('07, B.F.A., Communication Design), stamp designer, graphic designer and lettering artist, was selected to create the poster for this year’s Library of Congress National Book Festival. Dana also designed a U.S. Postal Service Forever Stamp last year and recently, she created the art on the latest edition of the Lone Star beer cans! |

Through July 18, 2021: On view in the Hudson Showroom of Artpace San Antonio, is "After Carolee: Tender and Fierce" by Liss LaFleur, assistant professor, Studio Art: New Media Art and CVAD alumna. This exhibition was curated by Annette DiMeo Carlozzi, author, curator and director at Contemporary Austin, Austin, Texas, and is honor of the 25 anniversary year of Artpace San Antonio. The Greater Denton Arts Council awarded Eliza Au an artist microgrant effective Jan. 1–May 15, 2022, for a collaborative group project that includes Au, UNT CVAD students in Au's Spring 2022 course, ASTU 3104.501, Intermediate Ceramics: Molds and Multiples, and Kim McKibben, owner, Aura Coffee, 1306 Hickory, Denton, Texas. Students will work with McKibben to design, display and market their work in the cafe. The purpose of the project is to promote entrepreneurship and help students learn how to research a site and its patrons through site visits or interviews with the owner. Students also will learn to become more aware of their community and how they can contribute to it both artistically and economically. |

Through July 25, 2021: The Workhouse Arts Center features "Middle Stanza" a solo exhibition by Andrew DeCaen, associate professor, Studio Art: Printmaking, in the Vulcan Gallery, Lorton, Va. DeCaen’s artwork centers around the themes of rituals surrounding food and slows down mundane experiences to linger in the smallest moments. Middle Stanza focuses on the idea of hypothetical and sequential time and space through a series of three works — the Little Kitchen, Gathering, and Stanza series. |

Through June 5, 2021: The Lewisville Grand Theater, Lewisville, Texas, presents Maelstrom, an exhibition highlighting works on paper, panel, and canvas by recent UNT graduate Maria Haag, M.F.A., Studio Art: Drawing and Painting. Haag's studio work is focused on the idea of life as an unavoidable journey through which each person is forced to travel. For her, the journey begins with suffering, seen as a sort of storm — a wrenching out of the common through a series of events, active or passive, which create a puncture in what is in order to open space for what could be. The fragility and malleability of the things and persons which make this journey is what inspires the form of her work. Located in the Main Art Gallery, the exhibition can be viewed during gallery hours, Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. |

Through June 27, 2021: Brooks Oliver, assistant professor, Studio Art: Ceramics, and coordinator, Ceramics Program, is part of a three-person exhibition from April 23 through June 27, 2021, at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, San Angelo, Texas. The show includes artists Ariel Bowman and Gregory Tegarden and is in conjunction with the San Angelo Ceramic Invitational 2021, April 23–25, a juried ceramic competition. The event corresponds to a weekend celebration and symposium, where Oliver, Bowman and Tegarden will participate in panel discussions, artist talks and workshops. |
Through May 15, 2021: Artwork created by Phil Samson, graduate student, Studio Art: Sculpture, has been selected for the ART214 juried exhibition. ART214 is part of Dallas Arts Month, a city-wide celebration of Dallas arts that was first launched by Mayor Mike Rawlings in 2013. Samson's work titled "Not Coping in a Beautiful World" will be displayed at the Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas from April 3 to May 15. The exhibition can be visited in person via appointment only by registering through the Bath House's Gallery appointment form. |

April 23–25, 2021: The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, San Angelo, Texas, kicks off the San Angelo Ceramic Invitational 2021 on April 23 with a weekend celebration that includes a juried ceramic competition, symposium, panel discussions, artist talks and workshops. Brooks Oliver, assistant professor, Studio Art: Ceramics, and coordinator, Ceramics Program, is one of three artists featured along with Ariel Bowman and Gregory Tegarden, who will have artworks on exhibition through June 27, 2021. |

Through June 6, 2021: The Texas Fashion Collection will be celebrating a century of at-home through "Fashion in Residence," an exhibition March 29 – June 6 at the NorthPark Center, Dallas. The exhibition, curated by Annette Becker, director, Texas Fashion Collection, explores the design innovations and cultural changes associated with clothing worn in private, domestic spaces. From transforming homes into venues for entertaining during Prohibition in the 1920s to the COVID-19 pandemic reshaping our living spaces into primary sites for leisure, our wardrobes have long responded to changing demands of our times. |

Through April 18, 2021: The 42nd annual Contemporary Crafts exhibition of the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, Mesa, Ariz., features the Juror's Choice Award received by Ana Lopez, associate professor, Studio Art: Metalsmithing and Jewelry. Juror Gail Brown selected four of Lopez's entries for the top honor which includes a cash prize and a solo exhibition at next year's craft show. The exhibition opens on Feb. 12 and will include an online catalog. |
