Commercial Interiors Designer (Designer L1)

Job Overview

As a Contract Furniture Designer, you will collaborate closely with salespeople, clients, architects, and project managers to conceptualize, design, plan, furnish and execute interior environments of commercial spaces.

Responsibilities

Conceptual Design

  • Confer with Account Managers, Project Managers, and/or Clients to determine the environment's purpose and function, budget, project scope, time schedules, project proposals, and types of furniture and equipment to be installed.
  • Develop innovative and functional interior design concepts that align with the client's brand identity, culture, and business objectives.
  • Render schematic design, create working drawings, product specifications, illustrations, material estimates and cost to create an Approval Package for client review and approval.

Project Collaboration

  • Advises project team and/or client on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, color schemes, and color coordination, and local building codes.

Space Planning

  • Integrate findings with interior design knowledge, formulate an environmental plan to be practical, esthetically pleasing, and conducive to intended purposes such as raising productivity, selling merchandise, or improving the efficiency of the office environment.
  • Efficiently plan and optimize commercial spaces to enhance workflow, productivity, and user experience.
  • Translate client feedback into design revisions and present updated design solutions.

Material and Finish Selection

  • Source and select appropriate materials and finishes that align with the design concept, budget, and durability requirements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate innovative materials into designs.

Administrative Management

  • Maintains design project files, time entry, and proper coding of work performed. This includes all project documentation, including records of all key decisions, phone conversations, approvals and signoffs, and notes from all project planning meetings.
  • Attends all weekly design/team meetings and seminars as required/requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience as a Commercial interior designer with a portfolio of projects in corporate, healthcare, or higher education sectors is preferred.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Configura, CET.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective client and team interactions.
  • Familiarity with commercial furniture lines preferred.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.
