Although I did not come to UNT seeking a degree in user experience design, I am very fortunate to have found a career that allows me to express myself creatively, while it also affords me opportunities to have a positive impact on improving people’s lives. I enjoy trying to understand and then resolve complex visual communication problems, and I’m thankful that my learning experiences in the UXD program here helped me to develop the designer mentality necessary to do this well. I strongly believe in the importance of cultivating empathy for those unlike ourselves in our everyday lives, and also strongly believe that this should always be reflected in the design work we collaborate to develop and launch. Following this ideology, and wanting to learn more about empathy-building, caused me to pursue a minor in Psychology. Understanding user and audience behavior and questioning assumptions—my own and others—has helped me become a better designer and individual, and I look forward to learning even more from those around me. I’m not exactly sure what is in store for my future, but I am excited about what is to come, and about my ability to play an active role in shaping it.

What is always within arm’s reach when you’re working and why? A water bottle (because I always forget to stay hydrated), my AirPods, and my dog, Zara, sleeping with her head in my lap.
