LAMP: Learn about a new Graduate Academic Certificate for Latino Cultural Heritage Stewardship!
The CVAD Department of Art Education is partnering with the UNT College of Information to offer the LAMP Fellowship to offer a museum-based fellowship to support 18 students seeking a graduate academic certificate and preparing for careers in museum studies. This fellowship benefits students pursuing advanced studies in American Latino life, art, history, and culture. The project, supported by a new Institute of Museum and Library Services initiative, provides professional coaching, mentoring, and financial support for students advancing careers in Latino museums and cultural preservation studies and laying a foundation for academic success in graduate school. The multi-disciplinary training approach allows student fellows to develop teamwork skills through real-life museum projects and apply their archival, art education, library science, language, and cultural competency training received from classes.

Program Goal

Partnership
UNT faculty members are partnering with the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute, MACRI, in San Antonio, Texas, the main internship site for the project.
Funding
This project is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services — project number ALIF-255023-OMS-23. The University of North Texas, in partnership with the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute, will create a new internship program for graduate students. Project activities will include recruiting a cohort of six students each year, supporting their completion of the new Cultural Heritage Stewardship Certificate, providing mentorship at the Mexican-American Civil Rights Institute, and conducting a program evaluation. Project funds will support student stipends and compensation for museum-based mentors and faculty. The resulting development of a new certificate program in Cultural Heritage Stewardship will prepare students in museum studies for careers in the museum field.
