Studio Art: New Media Art Exhibition

Seniors Unveil Hybrid Capstone Exhibition “Echoes of Existence” to Unite Digital and Physical Art Spaces

Denton, Texas — Graduating seniors in the University of North Texas New Media Art B.F.A. program will debut their capstone exhibition, "Echoes of Existence," a unique hybrid experience that brings together virtual and in-person audiences. From Oct. 29 through Oct. 31, 2024, the exhibition will take place at the Art Building in Room 187 and be accessible online through the international platform New Art City.

A public reception will be held on Oct. 30 from 5–6 p.m. in Room 187.

In an innovative split format, "Echoes of Existence" examines identity and consumption through multiple lenses. Visitors can engage with the works in three ways: on-site at the Art Building, Room 187, online via New Art City, and as a nighttime projection on Fry Street visible from the Art Building. This marks the New Media Art program’s third collaboration with New Art City, emphasizing the program's commitment to community engagement through a hybrid exhibition model.

The exhibition celebrates the fusion of digital and physical spaces. It honors the new wellness space dedicated to the late Jenn Aglio, who is remembered for her vibrant spirit and activism.

The exhibition showcases diverse artistic mediums and themes, including hyper-realistic 3D renderings, explorations of selfie culture, AI applications, and inflatable installations that critique consumerism and “cute culture.” Through these varied works, the exhibition addresses timely social issues such as surveillance, AI, mental health, and privacy, prompting viewers to consider the impact of our increasingly digital lives.

Join us in celebrating the graduating seniors of the New Media Art program and their innovative contributions to art and technology.
