March 13, 2023: Kinfolk House co-founder, artist and Art League Houston 2022 Artist of the Year Letitia Huckaby, CVAD visiting assistant professor in Studio Art is featured in Ebony magazine's article titled "3 Artists from 'Emancipation: the Unfinished Project of Liberation' Share Their Work" about the new exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas. Huckaby's projects in the exhibition focus on the legacy of emancipation within contemporary African American communities. The exhibition is on view through July 9.

May 3, 2023: "In Memoriam: A Personal Recollection of Vernon Fisher " in Glasstire: Texas Visual Art online magazine written by Matthew Bourbon, CVAD professor, Studio Art: Drawing and Painting.

Jan. 5, 2023, article by Lucinda Breeding-Gonzalez, Denton Record-Chronicle: During a press tour of the newly furnished and completed Frisco Landing, the new UNT campus in Frisco, people gathered in the main stairwell. They stood underneath the new public art installation, designed and created by UNT senior Archit Karkare. The three forms suggest feathers, a reference to UNT’s mascot, the eagle. Jan. 23, 2023: Sculpture student's talent ‘Soars' in Frisco Branch Campus

The new public art installation called 'Soar' hovers 10 feet above the floor at UNT's Frisco Landing.

University of North Texas sculpture major Archit Karkare's career is soaring, and he hasn't yet graduated. Karkare's 'Soar' sculpture was chosen from a dozen entries.

May 21, 2022 — "Expressive Watercolor Paintings Are Candid Snapshots of People Living in the Moment" that are described in an article by Margherita Cole in the online newsletter, "My Modern Met," featuring paintings by Stephen Zhang, CVAD alumnus and assistant professor in Communication Design.

While versed in a variety of media, he prefers watercolor as his material of choice, he said. “I have a special connection with watercolor since it bridges Eastern and Western artistic traditions,” Zhang tells My Modern Met. “When I paint, I take advantage of contradictions inherent in the medium—between complexity and simplicity, controlling and letting go, external and internal, and permanent and temporary. My painting always starts with something that moves me, and then it begins to take on its own path.” Read the article.

March 7, 2022: In "A Conversation with Lauren Cross, Curator of the 2022 Contemporary Art Month Perennial Exhibition," the March 7 edition of Glasstire, online art magazine, includes an interview by Ashley Allen. This year's Contemporary Art Month titled "Interior Realities," and curated by CVAD Assistant Professor Cross, showcases work from 17 San Antonio artists and will be on exhibition at two locations in San Antonio, Texas: Sala Diaz, from March 10–April 20, and the Southwest School of Art, from March 5–April 6. Every year during the month of March, as part of its mission, CAM offers a platform for artists, performers and curators to show off all the artistic creativity San Antonio has to offer at galleries, museums, performing arts spaces, schools, artist studios, and various unconventional locations across the city. Cross, artist, curator and scholar, serves as the CVAD program coordinator and core faculty member for the Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies program. Her research addresses interdisciplinary topics within the visual arts and design, including critical theory, social practice, art entrepreneurship/arts administration, curatorial studies/museum studies, multiculturalism, and women's and gender studies.

Feb. 15, 2022: The March 2022 edition of "Texas Monthly" features alumna Nosheen Iqbal, Communication Design: Graphic Design in "Colorful Threads Come to Life in Wall Hangings by a Richardson Artist," written by Sierra Juarez. Iqbal incorporates her Pakistani heritage into the embroidery and wood pieces that she crafts in her home studio in Richardson, Texas. Jan. 2, 2022: The Amon Carter Museum of American Art has named UNT CVAD alumna Mary Mbongo Nangah, Ph.D., 2015, Art Education, as a 2022 Carter Community Artist. Nangah is an instructor at Texas Christian University, School of Art, in the Department of Art Education. Originally from Cameroon, she earned an M.F.A. in 2009 from Parsons, the New School for Design in New York. Her pedagogy is grounded in postcolonial studies and critical multiculturalism to foster art education that is critically cognizant, inclusive and equitable. In her work at TCU, Nangah is a diversity, equity and inclusion faculty advocate for the College of Fine Arts, working to support students, faculty, and staff in facilitating DEI initiatives. Dec. 29, 2021: "County Line Magazine" of Ben Wheeler, Texas, features an article, "The Black Dress: A Classic Backdrop for Tyler Museum's Golden Anniversary" that includes the Texas Fashion Collection artifacts in the museum's exhibition, "The Black Dress: Selections from the Texas Fashion Collection and Works by Nancy Lamb." Open through Jan. 30, the exhibition celebrates the impact of the iconic black dress on fashion and social gatherings since its popularization by Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel in the 1920s. The exhibit is a collaboration between the Tyler Museum of Art, Tyler, Texas, and the Texas Fashion Collection of the UNT College of Visual Arts and Design. Texas Fashion Collection Director Annette Becker and Tyler Museum of Art Curator Caleb Bell co-curated the exhibit.

Nov. 9, 2021: Curbed.com, an online real estate and urban design part of "New York Magazine" features 2005 Studio Art Drawing and Painting alum in "Baseera Khan's Fever-Induced Works about Home" in the Performances Section. Khan's performance collapses the boundaries between the isolated domestic life of the early-pandemic era with the (sometimes) socially rich online one. The rehearsals and recordings of the show were live-streamed by the Chelsea art space the Kitchen, and Khan is currently fundraising to film a pilot. 

Sept. 23, 2021: Lowriders take Jefferson Boulevard on Sundays. Mónica Salazar, Art History lecturer, helps explain why in a Sept. 23, 2021, article in Al Día news, "Lowriders se toman Jefferson Boulevard los domingos en Oak Cliff." Lowriders are a symbol that represents the mixture of American car culture with Mexican culture's iconography, such as images of the Virgin of Guadalupe and pre-Columbian images, Salazar said. A lowrider, or low rider, is a customized car with a lowered body. These customized vehicles generally are painted with intricate, colorful designs, rolling on wire-spoke wheels with whitewall tires that are usually smaller than the original wheels, ranging down to 13 inches. With the origins of lowriders in California, how did the culture arrive in Texas? Salazar explains that the migration of Californian families to the Southwest expanded the culture of the lowriders to other states. Car clubs also began creating chapters outside of California. April 19, 2021: The Texas Association of Schools of Art's Artovation 2021 Student Exhibition included Kaitlin West, graduate student, Studio Art: Sculpture, in its congratulatory message of the selected and winning artists. West earned second place for her sculpture titled "That Shadow That Never Leaves You." Additional exhibits selected for the graduate student show from CVAD are Emily Potts, Maria Haag, Kyung Hee Im, Cosmo Jones, Saxon Martinez, and Jae-Eun Suh. Undergraduate exhibits selected for the show included art by Paul Armstrong, Riley Barkowsky, Sanah Brown-Bowers, Andrea Burciaga, Alexandra De Leon, Whitney Ethridge, Maya Heidel, Roxana Hernandez, Clara Limberg, Christopher Novinski, Trang Nguyen, Zoe Pitts, Jacqueline Scherf, Chloe Trent and Abby Zechman.

Oct. 2: Ro2 Art, a contemporary art gallery in Dallas was named the "Best Art Gallery" in the 2020 Dallas Observer Awards and was presented with the 25th Annual Obelisk Award for small business by the North Texas Business Council for the Arts. The gallery is co-owned by UNT alumnus Jordan Roth. The Ro2 Art represents Brooks Oliver, assistant professor, Studio Art: Ceramics.
