Interior Design Educators Council© awards Honorable Mention to CVAD student designers

Interior Design Educators CouncilMarch 15, 2022: The Interior Design Educators Council recognized the UNT CVAD Interior Design Team with an honorable mention in the 2022 IDEC Student Competition. Giselle Villeda, Shelbi Jarrett, Rebekah Morrow, and Danielle Parker, mentored by Natalie Ellis, CVAD assistant professor for interior design, received the IDEC Southwest Region award. The project teams were asked to consider a mixed-used living environment for a couple focused on art and weaving. Each group was required to use three shipping containers as the basis of their designed live-work-gather space. The conceptual designs were placed on a unique site to incorporate walkable communities engaged with one another. The clients were of the Navajo Indian tribe, in their mid-30s, having a lifestyle preference of sustainability. The designed space sought to engage the theories of symbolism and community. Central to building restrictions, the students were to engage in their community’s building codes. Additionally, the final design was asked to integrate two key LEED well credits of walkable and connected communities.
