Noted American design researcher, professor and author Don Norman to engage in critical discussion with UNT students

UNT CVAD’s Department of Design and the User-Experience Design Student Association will host a Zoom-facilitated “fireside chat” webinar with author Don Norman beginning on Sept. 22, 2022, at 3 p.m. All UNT students, staff and faculty are welcome.

During this webinar, students and faculty can pose questions or present issues that will guide discussions with Norman. Questions and discussion should be rooted in exploring how we might think and work most effectively toward realizing the future when humans and other living things might wish not only to live but thrive.

Norman is the founding director emeritus of The Design Lab at the University of California San Diego and is a co-founder of the international design consultancy known as The Nielsen Norman Group. In 1986, he introduced the term “user-centered design” and is well-known worldwide for his books, such as "The Design of Everyday Things," "Emotional Design," and "The Design of Future Things." Norman's forthcoming book "Design for a Better World" challenges designers and their collaborators — technologists, scientists, engineers and those on whose behalf they design — to work toward thinking about, designing and effectively implementing a future that would be more livable and desirable for Earth’s diverse array of inhabitants.

Students and faculty who wish to pose questions and issues for discussion will be allowed to pose questions in the virtual waiting room of the webinar as it transpires, or they can submit these in advance to the Department of Design via email at cvad.design@unt.edu. Department of Design faculty and members of the UXSA will choose which from among these submissions will be posed to Norman.

To obtain a code to enter the webinar, please email the Department of Design at cvad.design@unt.edu. The Zoom link for this webinar is https://unt.zoom.us/j/81051106704?pwd=V3FQYWRjQXhORnNtcXZkWmYzandZZz09.

This event is presented by the User-Experience Student Association President Maurice Cruz, an undergraduate student of UXD, and Communication Design faculty Michael Gibson, Keith Owens, Cassini Nazir and Omari Souza.
