Dear CVAD community,
I am pleased to announce, following our national search, Dr. Karen Hutzel has been selected as the new Dean of the College of Visual Arts and Design effective July 1, 2021.
Dr. Hutzel is a nationally and internationally recognized scholar and leader who has served as the Chair of Arts Administration, Education and Policy and has been the interim Chair of the Department of Art at The Ohio State University. She holds her BS in Visual Communication Design, MA in Art Education and Ph.D. in Art Education.
Dr. Hutzel is a collaborative, caring and inclusive leader. During our conversations about this role, Dr. Hutzel emphasized her desire to directly collaborate with the CVAD community to collectively define priorities for the college. She noted that she was appreciative of the high levels of engagement of the CVAD community members in the search process. Dr. Hutzel is deeply committed to our standing as both an R1 university and a minority-serving institution and will be working with the CVAD community to advance initiatives in support of our mission.
